Former president Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden attended the star-studded opening night of Othello on Broadway, marking their first major public outing since moving out of the White House in January.
The couple stepped out to see Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal make their debut in the famed William Shakespeare play classic, with the 46th president donning a classic black tuxedo and Jill opting for a glittering blue long-sleeved dress. The 73-year-old had previously worn the Ralph Lauren frock at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
The former first lady commemorated their night on the Great White Way by posting a photo of herself on Instagram posing with her husband of 48 years on a balcony in New York City that she captioned, “Date night!”
She also posted the same photo on her Instagram Stories, in addition to another photo arm-in-arm with her husband inside the Barrymore Theatre while the 46th president held up a Playbill.
Following the show, the couple—who share daughter Ashley Biden, 43, as well as his son Hunter Biden, 55, and late son Beau Biden from his first marriage—posed for photos with members of the cast, one of which Jill shared along with her review of the show.
Writing on her Instagram Stories, the English professor called the show “Riveting…Brilliant…BRAVO!”

The former first couple’s date night comes two months after President Donald Trump succeeded Joe as head of state. After the transition of power, the former Apprentice star shared that the 82-year-old had left him behind “a very nice letter” in the Oval Office.
“As I take leave of this sacred office I wish you and your family all the best in the next four years,” Biden wrote, per Fox News. “The American people—and people around the world—look to this house for steadiness in the inevitable storms of history, and my prayer is that in the coming years will be a time of prosperity, peace, and grace for our nation.”
Before signing off, Biden added, “May God bless you and guide you as He has blessed and guided our beloved country since our founding.”
