Stepmother Tries to Kick Her Stepson Out, Unaware She Would Soon Be on the Streets Herself — Story of the Day Marcus, a college student, comes home after a long day to find out, shockingly, that his stepmother needs him to move out in three days so she can get ready for a new baby. Marcus confronts his family out of fear and rage, learning of dark truths that change his role in their life. After working his part-time job, Marcus was exhausted when he got home. He was still a 19-year-old college student balancing job at a nearby video game store in the evenings with his schoolwork during the day.He struggled to keep up with his academics and would stay up late every night to do his coursework.

Marcus hadn’t intended to work until after graduation because he didn’t need to. Even though his stepmother Karen encouraged that he acquire a job, Tom, his father, made enough money to support him.Although she stated that it was to instill in him a sense of responsibility, Marcus was aware that Karen really just wanted him out of the house. He had little choice but to accept his father’s pressure to take a part-time job since he believed Karen.Marcus hoped for a quiet moment as he entered the home. Rather, Karen addressed him at the door right away.“Why do you arrive late? Did you forget that today was designated for cleaning? Karen’s voice pierced the atmosphere. Feeling the weight of the day, Marcus sighed. “I’m exhausted after a difficult day. Tomorrow, I’ll clean. Karen squinted her eyes. “Tomorrow? What do you mean? You must fulfill the obligations that you have to others.Marcus’s hands clenched, frustration rising. It’s your day off at home. Is cleaning really so difficult? Karen’s expression flushed. “How dare you talk to me in that manner!”His father entered the room due to the noise. “What is happening here?” Gazing between Marcus and Karen, Tom questioned.Karen crossed her arms and stated, “Marcus refuses to clean.” “I’m not turning down. Just now, I promised to clean tomorrow.

Marcus tried to remain calm as he said, “I’m tired today. His dad gave Karen a quick glance. “See, Karen, tomorrow he’ll clean.”Though glad, Marcus was worn out. With nothing more in mind but to fall asleep, he turned to head to his room. “We have important news tonight, so don’t go anywhere,” his father called after him. Almost too tired to argue, Marcus nodded. He went to his room, collapsed onto his bed, and wondered what “important news” there might be while he stared at the ceiling. Before his father gently shook Marcus’s shoulder to wake him up, Marcus dozed off for approximately an hour. “Son, come downstairs. We must have a conversation.” Marcus stood up, rubbed his eyes, and headed toward the kitchen. They’d had dinner while he was at work, so they’d set up a little table for him with a dish of leftovers. With a growing hunger in his belly, he took a seat and began dishing himself some food. He saw Karen and his father observing him intently as he started to eat, their eyes tracking his every move. A sense of dense anticipation filled the air.“What?” Marcus inquired, his expression filled with confusion as he glanced from his father to Karen. His dad gave him a big smile. He turned to look at Karen, who was also grinning a little, and said, “We have important news for you.” Marcus carried on eating, glancing between them to try to interpret their reactions. He enquired, feeling a mixture of curiosity and unease. “So, what’s the news?”Tom and Karen glanced at each other and then declared together, “We’re pregnant!” Marcus choked on his food, coughed, and hurriedly reached for his water bottle after being startled.

“Well done, I suppose.” He forced a laugh. There was happiness in his father’s eyes. “Many thanks! We’re overjoyed! Marcus was concerned when he observed the joy on his father’s face because of Karen’s severe expression. “That’s correct,” his dad replied, his voice wavering. “We’ve decided after thinking about it for a while—I’m not sure how to put it.”With a strong and icy tone, Karen said, “You need to move out.” Marcus’s shocked eyes grew wider. How come? What’s she talking about, Dad? In search of confirmation, he turned to his father. Karen folded her arms. With a sharp voice, she remarked, “I want to renovate the house and get ready for the baby, and you’ll just be in the way.” Marcus objected. Where shall I go, though? I said, feeling a mixture of incredulity and rage, “This is my home too.” Tom, please speak out, Karen pleaded. Tom sighed, his expression confused. “But he makes a point; perhaps he ought to stay, at least for the duration of his studies.”“We’ve already talked about this,” Karen growled, annoyance flaring in her eyes. Tom glanced at Marcus before turning back to Karen. “Okay, Marcus, it’s time for you to move out,” he stated with a forlorn tone. I can’t, however, afford an apartment. I study and work part-time. I’m not even sure whether I’ll have enough cash for a room rental. Marcus’s voice rose in anger as he spoke.

Karen’s tone was unwavering as she said, “You’re 19, you’re an adult now, and you need to learn to live on your own.”His father said, “She’s right, this is your chance to start your adult life,” but he didn’t appear persuaded. “Leave for hell!” Marcus bellowed, jerking to his feet. With a sense of betrayal and rage, he stormed to his room and slammed the door behind him. He tried to make sense of things that night as he lay in bed and stared up at the ceiling. Then he heard voices in the living room, muted. He stood up and placed his ear to the door out of curiosity. His father spoke in a steady yet uncertain tone. He said, “Maybe Marcus should stay, at least while he’s in school.” “No, Tom. He must leave.” Karen’s voice was abrasive and demanding. “He will just cause trouble. We must make room for the infant. A knot formed in Marcus’s tummy. He was hearing things that he couldn’t believe. A knock at his door came after a while. Karen came in with a grim frown on her face. She stated in a tone that left no possibility of disagreement, “We talked and decided that you need to move out in three days.”“Thirty days? Are you deranged? In three days, how am I expected to find a place? Marcus snapped, fury erupting in him. “Not a concern of mine. And before you dare talk to me like that ever again, Karen remarked icily as she walked out of the room. Feeling helpless and alone, Marcus took a seat on his bed and wondered what to do. He was aware that his father would never listen to him and would always take Karen’s side. He had no close family to ask for assistance.Marcus was baffled as to why Karen detested him so intensely.

He had always been helpful around the house and had treated her nicely. He was relieved when his father brought Karen home for the first time because his mother had abandoned him when he was only three years old. He felt that she would make their life a little more stable and happy. But he recognized now that it was never reciprocal. Karen was never fond of him. Marcus searched for a place to live, but nobody was willing to rent to a part-time worker who was also a student. He contacted listings and got rejected on every one. Since his pals all still lived with their parents, he was unable to stay with them either. He was helpless and miserable, unsure of what to do next.At his lowest point, he thought of his godmother, Aunt Rose, the sister of his late grandma. He had no other choice, but she lived far away. His hands trembling, he picked up the phone and dialed her number. “Hello, Aunt Rose? With a quivering voice, he said, “It’s Marcus.” “Marcus, sweetie, how are you?” Senseing his distress, Rose enquired. He told her everything, even how he was feeling desperate and how Karen and his father were pressuring him to move out. Rose listened quietly and then stated, “Do nothing,” in a forceful but calm voice. I’ll be over there shortly. When a flight becomes available, I’ll take it. Marcus experienced a surge of comfort.

He was hopeful just knowing that someone cared, even though he wasn’t sure how his Aunt Rose would be of assistance. He was thankful for the first time in days as he sat close to his bed, waiting and wondering what would come next. Though he still had a lot of uncertainties about the future, he was beginning to feel hopeful. Next day Rose showed up. She had never looked so angry to Marcus. With an angry expression on her face, she entered the house and summoned everyone to the living room. Karen, Marcus, and his father took a seat on the couch and exchanged uneasy glances. “What are you thinking, attempting to forcibly remove a child from his family?” Rose screamed, her anger palpable in her voice. Karen stared back while crossing her arms. She angrily remarked, “He’s not a child; he’s 19.” Rose squinted her eyes. “He is still enrolled in school, and nobody requested your input. She snapped back, “I have a lot to say about you too.“What’s going on, Rose?” Tom, Marcus’s father, questioned, appearing perplexed. Rose inhaled deeply. She firmly responded, “Here’s what: you have no right to kick Marcus out of this house because it’s his house.”

Marcus’s shocked eyes grew wider. He was baffled as to how this could be feasible. Karen let out a bitter laugh. Dismissively, she responded, “That’s impossible.” Rose gave a headshake. “It’s quite likely. Before she passed away, my late sister changed her will to give Marcus the house in order to stop exactly what is occurring right now. She saw through your cunning plans and knew you would try to take advantage of her son, she added. Marcus experienced mixed feelings. He was shocked to learn that his grandma had continued to watch out for him even after she passed away. Tom had an angry and bewildered gaze. His voice trailed off as he questioned, “Why am I hearing this for the first time?” “Unless a critical situation arose, which this is,” Rose answered, “she asked me to keep it a secret.”Karen became furious and flushed. “This is our residence! Not Marcus’s, she cried out. “No, that’s Marcus’s residence. Since he became eighteen,” Rose stated coolly. “This is not fair! It’s incorrect! Karen’s screams got louder as she went on. Rose’s eyebrow went up. “I’d like to know what you think is wrong,” she said. “Sipping wine with a friend while purportedly expecting?” Karen became paler. How come? “How did you…?” she trailed off.

Rose only remarked, “I saw you this morning, at the cafe.” Tom looked at Karen, a mixture of hurt and bewilderment on his face. Is that accurate? He questioned, “Is that how you treat our future child?” Karen had a desperate look. “The baby isn’t there!” She spoke without thinking, then covered her mouth upon realizing what she had said. “You told me a lie?” Tom inquired, his tone hardly audible above a whisper. Karen made an effort to get better. “All I wanted was for Marcus to vacate!” However, we may still become parents,” she begged. Not at all. Tom stated in a firm and decisive voice, “You’re going to pack your things and leave right now. “However…” With tears flowing down her cheeks, Karen attempted to resist. “Now!” he exclaimed, losing all patience.Karen walked to the bedroom to pack her stuff while sobbing. Marcus felt a strange mixture of comfort and regret as he watched her leave. With remorse in his eyes, his father turned to face him. “I apologize for putting you through this. “I’m not sure what hit me,” he murmured. Marcus gave a headshake. He said, “It’s okay,” even though he knew it wasn’t totally true. It’s not, I assure you. But everything will be OK. His father hugged him and said, “I will always put you first from now on. Feeling truly loved for the first time in a long time, Marcus returned the hug. He had not felt warm and relief like he did when they hugged one other for years. It dawned on him that his father did, after all, love him. He felt hopeful that things could improve after this sincere connection. Please share this story with your friends and let us know what you think. It could uplift them and make their day.
